China Airlines is the flag carrier of Taiwan, and also the largest airline in Taiwan...but just how much do you know about Taiwan itself?

Fact 1:

Taiwan is shaped like a leaf, with a total land area of 14, 400 square miles and a population of 23,000,000. So roughly the same size as Belgium, but with the same population as Australia!

Fact 2:

The official language of Taiwan is Mandarin Chinese, however, nearly 500,000 indigenous people, the original inhabitants of Taiwan still live there, and have kept their languages alive. The most popular foreign language is English, which is part of the school curriculum.

Fact 3:   

Taiwan is recognised as a liberal democracy, with regular open and fair elections. It has the freest press environment in Asia, with over 360 privately owned newspapers and radio stations. The media in Taiwan is diverse, and reports vigorously on government activities.    

Fact 4: 

Taiwan has been voted in the top 10 "Best Value Destinations For 2015" by Lonely Planet, delivering great all-round value , being significantly cheaper than Hong Kong, Seoul or Tokyo.

Fact 5:

Two-thirds of the total area of Taiwan is covered by forested mountains and the remaining area consists of hilly country, platforms and highlands, coastal plains and basins. There are over 258 peaks higher than 3,000 metres on the island.
